DESCRIPTION: Ku is a small gnome, only a few inches over three feet tall. His body is wiry, his skin deep brown and weathered. PERSONALITY AND MANNERISMS
Ku (short for Kumettanimi Phletrebettos Gorbetlim, a name which he hates and never uses) is a rarity among the gnomish race — a quiet and reclusive individual. He is no less curious than others of his kind, but prefers to investigate things through stealth and observation rather than direct questioning. He has a tendency to attach himself to groups of people he finds interesting, sometimes following them for miles from a distance, other times finding a way to join the group to accompany them more personally. He appreciates a good song or joke no less than others of his race, but is inclined to show his pleasure with a silent grin; he never tells (or plays) jokes or sings himself. His "play" is his drawing; when he has two hands free he is often sketching. He is quiet without being rude, and even less prone than other gnomes to reveal much about himself. 
Ku is motivated primarily by curiosity. He has no hatred of the Romans, no particular ambition or desire for wealth, no strong need to right any sorts of societal injustice. He is happier underground than under the sun, but occasionally visits human cities to explore, to see what he can discover there. He likes gems a lot, thinks they're neat, but is more concerned with color and clarity (he likes light blues and deep yellows) than with monetary value.

PERSONAL AND FAMILY HISTORY/BACKGROUND
Ku is a native of a gnomadic clan in the desert of the Sinai peninsula. He was the second son of the clan chieftain, and so stood to inherit absolutely nothing. With no promise or position in the clan, he left at a fairly young age, and began exploring the labyrinths of caverns in the peninsula, desiring to draw the beautiful rock formations and fungi of the underdark. Eventually, his explorations brought him afoul of the Deiin dwarves at the peninsula's southern tip, and he was enslaved there for a number of years. Though he finally managed to escape, the experience left him with an abiding hatred of the duergar and a very close-mouthed demeanor. His antipathy towards duergar is deep-seated and visceral — he truly cannot control his emotions when they are around, though (again) he is more likely to express his feelings with a few well-placed blowgun darts from a good hiding place rather than a vocal display of emotion.

ACQUAINTANCES
Chala: I like Chala. He got mad at Raz and left the party, but he didn't go far, and he was around to help when we ended up fighting the Hound, Garus Mord. I give him credit for integrity, despite my earlier confusion that he seemed to want to do this only for the money. He ended up helping us even though he didn't get any money. I wonder why?
Dras: Met him as Varnick, on the Reborn Isis adventure. Actually, he didn't make a strong impression on me; I was wrapped up in Raz and Chala. Though I do remember being puzzled most of all by his agreeing to guard the ship — for no other reason (that I could make out) than because he was getting paid. He didn't appreciate my outburst about not letting Iris onto the ship. I'm not sure what to think about him.
Geref: Met him on Reborn Isis adventure. He didn't exactly make a strong impression on me. I'm having a hard time remembering interacting with him at all.
Iris: Iris is "the Hand of Isis," the leader of the cult of Reborn Isis in Alexandria. Like Raz, she started calling me "little one" and doing all the pat-on-the-head, isn't he cute sorts of things, but it got me a long way with them both to act all cute and innocent. Basically, human women fascinate me. Men seem so preoccupied with size and strength, but the women are much . . . softer. Hm.
Pontius Africanus: The most polite gentleman I have ever met. Even though he threatened us, he bought us breakfast and was always so cordial and gentle —Ênot just with me, but with everyone. I honestly feel that if I were in trouble, I could go to him for help. Isn't that bizarre? Oh, yeah, he's the governor of Alexandria, or something like that.
Raz: Oh, I like Raz. I invited her to go spelunking with me. She was so nice to me! OK, so sometimes she got a little patronizing — she started it with calling me "little one," which the Hand of Isis (Iris) soon picked up. But I got a long way with her by acting cute and innocent. Anyway, I hope she takes me up on my offer someday.
