PERSONAL AND FAMILY HISTORY/BACKGROUND |

Dras (otherwise known as Talen) was born in Germainia, but was orphaned in Rome at a very early age. He spent a long time there as a street urchin, begging, picking pockes, and running errands for the shadier elements of the city. Fifteen years ago, he was playing cards with a rich nobleman, was caught cheating and had to leave Rome in a hurry. He then learned the art and importance of successful disguise, as the nobleman sent men following him into Gaul and the southwestern reaches of Germania. He fled to the north of Rome, and aided some elves there in the aquisition of some weapons.
His anti-Roman sentiments range from jealousy, to distaste, to hatred. They have too much money, they're downright stupid, and they persecute non-humans.
In recent times, after great self-examination, he's begun to learn that it can be rewarding to be trusted. This is a new experience for him - up until now, he's been a loner and not gone out of his way to help anyone. Others' opinions of him are mattering more and more.
At one time, he was convinced that the Romans were the greatest embodiment of evil in the world - especially for their racist sentiments and actions. However, lately, he has begun to tire of that obsession. Besides, he's finding more and more that the elves of his heritage do little to earn the respect of the Romans, but rather, seem to perpetuate their own image as "barbarians".
A spy with a conscience, who's tired of these backwoods yokels that are his heritage. How does he reconcile this?
He wishes to lead a more cosmopolitan life, but in a city where elves are respected, rather than enslaved. He has heard that there is such a place south of Arabia, and he hopes to travel down there, and work his way into the guild, and perhaps, someday, spy for some good cause - a worthy king, or something. He wants prestige and power, and to keep his conscience free.
