PERSONALITY AND MANNERISMS |
---|
Jovial, friendly, and welcoming. Loves to spend hours in the baths, gossiping, gambling, and storytelling. Tries to avoid fights, especially brawls. Definitely prefers to live to fight another day. • Celsus is deeply troubled by the growing realization that he's likely to outlive everyone who means something to him — a point which the death of his (human) wife strongly emphasized. • He loves children, and often thinks sadly about his own daughter, who died in infancy. loves physical activity. loves the culture of both Ethiopia & the elves, for what little he knows — but also Greece! Doesn't like being away from "civilization." terrified of snakes | PERSONAL AND FAMILY HISTORY/BACKGROUND |
---|
Celsus' father was a wealthy Ethiopian merchant (Lucius Ekmellius Crinax, himself a freedman) who settled in Carthage in his old age (40s) with a household full of slaves but no natural family. He ended up falling in love/lust with a servant, an elf woman from Thracia, who bore his only son — Lucius Ekmellius Celsus. Six years after Celsus' birth, his father died, legally freeing both Celsus and his mother in his will. His mother found employ as a tutor of Greek with a wealthy Carthaginian family, earning enough to support herself and her son. At the age of 15, Celsus was married to a young freedwoman attached to the same household, and they lived together childless for ten years, while Celsus also tutored Greek. His wife, however, died in childbirth during their tenth year together, and the infant died very soon thereafter. (Celsus' mother had died just a year before, of illness.) At that time (twelve years before the start of his adventuring career), Celsus began traveling, spending some time in the gymnasia and public baths of Alexandria, Antioch, Athens, and Ephesus, learning boxing and charioteering as well as weapons skills. He also, in private, developed the magical skills his mother had taught him long ago, increasing his athletic effectiveness in a somewhat unfair manner. | ADVENTURES (8) | EXPERIENCE: 7764 |

Dras: I first met him as Talen, on the Danish Axe adventure. Just having come from a very annoying adventure with an elf named Kalen, who claimed to be my cousin, I was not exactly open to Talen to begin with. ShadowDancer's warning about not being able to trust him didn't help. Well, as that adventure deteriorated, I came to trust and like Talen a little more. He meant well, at least at the end, and I've gained some respect for him. We'll see where it goes from there, if we ever meet again. I hear he's heading towards Arabia. Well, best of luck to him. | ShadowDancer: Amy's halfling psionicist/thief (spy). We met on the Racist Priest adventure (argh), then I somehow persuaded her to join me on my journey to Denmark. She's always been very wary of bringing the axe back to the tomb in Carthage (can't say I blame her). We complained to each other about Dras/Talen on the axe adventure (she didn't trust him at all, after having adventured with him on Trio of Troubles). A good friend and companion. Her fear of pain and death are almost amusing, but a good counterbalance to my foolhardiness. |
